What happens in the chair
Consultation
You choose length and shape against your own nail bed — a tip that suits your hand rather than the one that looked good on someone else's. Your technician will say plainly if a length is going to break on you. Your full total is confirmed before any work begins.
Prep
Any existing product is soaked off. The natural nail is shaped, the cuticle area tidied, and the surface lightly buffed and cleansed. This is the step that separates Gel X from acrylic: the nail is prepared to bond, not filed down. Files and buffers are single-use; metal implements are cleaned, disinfected and sealed between guests.
Tip sizing
Each of the ten tips is matched to its nail so it sits flush from sidewall to sidewall with no gap on either side. This is the quiet step that decides whether a set lasts four weeks, and a tip that is even slightly too wide or too narrow is the most common reason a set lifts early. Tips are then trimmed towards the length you agreed.
Bond and cure
A bonding layer is cured onto the natural nail, gel is applied inside the tip and across the nail, the tip is pressed on and held, and the whole nail is cured under the lamp. Gel only hardens under light, so there is no rush while it is being positioned — the tip is adjusted until it sits straight before it is cured.
Shape and refine
The set is filed to its final length and outline and the join at the cuticle is refined until you cannot feel a ridge running your thumb over it. A Gel X tip arrives nearly finished, so this is refinement rather than sculpting.
Colour and finish

Removal is a soak, never a pry: the top is filed back to thin the gel, then the nails are wrapped in acetone until the tip softens and lifts away. Looking after it
- Keep the set out of long hot soaks for the first day; heat and moisture can soften a fresh bond.
- Cuticle oil daily — it keeps the skin and the edge of the gel from drying out, which is where lifting starts.
- Do not use the nails as tools. A tip that gets levered will take nail with it.
- Wear gloves for washing up, cleaning and anything with detergent.
- If a tip lifts, do not pick at it — water gets underneath a lifted tip, and that is how problems start. Book a repair; within 7 days it is free.
