Body Waxing

Best Body Waxing in Lakeland, FL

Arms, legs, underarms, neck and sideburns, around thirty minutes each, with weeks rather than days before the hair comes back.

From $15 · 7 optionsOpen 7 days · walk-ins welcome

Body waxing takes hair out at the root, which is why skin typically stays smooth for three to four weeks rather than the stubble you feel within a day or two of shaving. Warm wax is spread over the area, grips the hair and is pulled away with it. Over time many people find regrowth comes in finer and sparser, though that varies from person to person.

People choose waxing for the gap between visits, for skin that stays smooth without razor bumps or nicks, and for the areas that are awkward to shave well: the backs of the legs, the full arm, the underarm, the neck. In Florida, sleeveless and sandal weather is most of the year, so a monthly leg or underarm wax is a simple routine to keep.

At Sora, underarms are $25, half arm $25, full arm $40, half leg $30, full leg $50, neck $20 and sideburns $15. Each service takes around thirty minutes. Walk-ins are welcome, and there is a complimentary drinks menu while you are here.

Choose this if…

  • Choose this if you are tired of shaving every couple of days and want weeks between sessions.
  • Choose it if shaving leaves you with razor bumps, ingrown hairs or irritation; wax removes the hair whole rather than cutting it to a sharp point.
  • Choose it before a holiday, a wedding or a beach weekend, booked a few days ahead so any pinkness has settled.
  • Talk to your technician first if the skin is sunburnt, broken or irritated, if you have used a retinoid or exfoliating acid on the area recently, or if you have varicose veins where you want waxing.
  • Tell your technician if you have diabetes, neuropathy, are pregnant or take blood thinners. We are licensed nail technicians, not medical providers, and that information helps them judge what is safe to do.

What happens in the chair

  1. Check the hair and the skin

Your technician confirms the area and checks the hair is long enough for the wax to grip, about a quarter of an inch, and that the skin is free of cuts, sunburn or recent exfoliant use. Your total is confirmed before starting.

  2. Cleanse and prep

The skin is cleansed to remove lotion, oil and sweat. Many technicians then dust it lightly with powder so the wax grips the hair rather than the skin.

  3. Wax in sections

Warm wax is typically spread in the direction of hair growth and removed against it, one short section at a time, with the skin held taut so each pull is quick and clean. Larger areas such as a full leg are worked in rows.

  4. Tidy the stragglers

Any hairs the wax missed, often in the underarm or around the knee and ankle, are usually tweezed so the finish is even.

  5. Soothe

Wax residue is wiped away and a soothing post-wax lotion is usually applied. Expect the skin to look a little pink for a few hours; that is normal and fades on its own.

How long it lasts

Hair typically takes three to four weeks to return because it has to regrow from the root. It does not all come back at once: the first hairs tend to reappear around the two-week mark, and by four weeks most people are ready for the next session. Keeping to a steady four-to-six-week rhythm tends to help, as the hairs fall into a similar growth cycle and each wax catches more of them.

Between visits, leave the hair to grow rather than shaving. Shaving resets the cycle, and the hair needs to be about a quarter of an inch long, roughly two weeks of growth, before it can be waxed again.

Looking after it

  • For the first 24 hours avoid hot baths, saunas, pools, sunbathing and heavy workouts; heat, chlorine and sweat irritate open follicles.
  • Wear loose, soft clothing over the area for the rest of the day, especially after underarm or leg waxing.
  • Keep the skin clean and skip perfumed lotions, deodorant and body sprays on the area until the next day.
  • From the second or third day, exfoliate gently a few times a week and keep the skin moisturised; this helps prevent ingrown hairs between visits.
  • Use sunscreen on freshly waxed skin for a few days, as it burns more easily.
  • Do not shave between appointments; let the hair reach a quarter of an inch before your next wax.

Good to know

How long does waxing last?

Because wax removes hair from the root, regrowth typically takes three to four weeks rather than days.

How long does the hair need to be?

About a quarter of an inch — roughly two weeks of growth after shaving. Shorter than that and the wax cannot grip it cleanly.

Does body waxing hurt?

Each strip stings for a moment, then it passes. Underarms and the back of the thigh tend to feel it most; forearms and lower legs least. Many people find it easier the second and third time as the hair comes back finer. Some people are more sensitive after a lot of caffeine or in the days before their period, so it can help to plan around that.

Will waxing give me ingrown hairs?

Waxing tends to cause fewer ingrown hairs than shaving because the hair is removed whole rather than cut to a sharp point under the skin. If you are prone to them, gentle exfoliation two or three times a week from the second day on, plus daily moisturizer, helps keep the follicle clear as the hair regrows.

What is the difference between a half and full arm or leg?

A half leg usually means from the knee down and a full leg runs from the ankle to the top of the thigh; a half arm is usually from the elbow to the wrist and a full arm reaches the shoulder. If you are unsure which you need, your technician will confirm what each covers before starting. Half leg is $30 and full leg $50; half arm is $25 and full arm $40.
