The four are quite different techniques. Hand-painted design is brushwork — florals, swirls, animal print, dots, lines, 3D detail. Chrome is a fine pigment powder rubbed over a gel top coat for a mirror finish. Cat eye is a gel with magnetic particles, pulled into a band of light with a magnet. A French is a colored tip — classic white or anything else — painted along the free edge.
People choose art for an occasion, for one or two accent nails that lift a plain set, or because a photo caught their eye. Bring the photo. Inspiration photos depend on your own nail bed and length, so your technician will tell you what is achievable before starting, and the full total is confirmed before any work begins.

What happens in the chair
Choose the base set first
Art sits on top of a gel, dip, acrylic or Gel X set, so that is booked and built first. Chrome and cat eye need a gel surface to grip, so they pair with gel color rather than regular lacquer.
Agree the design
Show the photo, say which nails you want it on and how bold you want it. Your technician checks it against your nail length and shape and tells you what will translate and what needs adapting. The price for the art is confirmed here, before any brush touches the nail.
Color and cure
The base color goes on and, for gel, is cured under the lamp. For cat eye the magnetic gel is applied, a magnet is held over each nail to pull the pigment into a band or a curve, and then it is cured so the effect is locked in.
The detail work
Hand-painted designs are built up with fine brushes, layer by layer, curing between layers on gel. Chrome is rubbed over a cured no-wipe top coat with a sponge applicator until the surface turns mirror-bright. A French tip is painted along the free edge and tidied with a clean-up brush.
Seal and finish
A top coat goes over everything to protect the work, then cures or dries. Chrome and cat eye are sealed with a clear coat so the finish does not rub away. Detailed sets take real chair time, which is why it helps to mention the art when you book.
How long it lasts
Nail art lasts as long as the set it sits on: roughly two to three weeks on a gel manicure, two to three weeks on acrylic before a fill is due, and three to four weeks on dip or Gel X. Because the design is sealed under the top coat, it wears with the color rather than separately. Chrome and cat eye depend on that seal — if the top coat wears thin at the tips, the mirror effect dulls there first.
Art comes off with the set. Gel, dip and acrylic are all soaked off rather than pried, and the art goes with them; there is no separate removal step for painted work. Gems or 3D pieces come off at the same time. If something chips or lifts within 7 days, Sora repairs it at no charge.
Looking after it
- Let the finish fully set before you do anything heavy-handed — gel is touch-dry when you leave, regular lacquer needs longer
- Cuticle oil every day keeps the nail flexible and helps the edges of the design stay down
- Gloves for washing up and cleaning — detergent and hot water wear the top coat thin
- Do not pick at raised detail, gems or 3D pieces; if something loosens, have it reattached rather than pulling it
- Avoid using the tips of the nails as tools; chrome and cat eye dull at the edge first when they get scraped
- A fresh layer of top coat partway through the wear can keep a mirror finish bright
